This house, built on a sand dune overlooking Lake Michigan, stood twenty-five feet above the adjacent road. Built as a cabin in the early 1900's, its cedar support columns had gradually settled and unfortunately caused the house itself to sag. Deitz House Movers, Inc. was hired to lift the home, under-excavate, and construct a new basement.

The surrounding ground was classified as a 'critical dune' and could not be disturbed. Therefore, Deitz House Moving utilized telescoping boom equipment to ensure the dune remained undisturbed.

While installing these 1,200 pound, 30 foot long, steel beams our crew had only inches of clearance. Above right; Our loader is lifted to a platform for excavation.

With the house lifted, Deitz Movers excavating crew begin removing the sand from under the structure. This will create a void for construction of the basement type foundation.

With the new foundation complete, the house is lowered and the lifting beams are removed. The new foundation will net the customer an additional 800 square feet of living space plus a stable and energy efficient foundation.
